Get the feeling ...
I got that feeling this weekend. You know the one where you actually feel homesick for your church folk on Monday morning? It was a great weekend, filled with lots of laughter, hiking, etc. with our youth group. The kids even led worship Sunday morning and did a great job. Blessed.

One of the them (a seeker, really) mentioned to me that it was great to be around Christians without feeling judged. What a world we live in where non-believers think of Christians as judgemental above all else. How did we get to this place, especially when the gospels are so clear about planks in the eye and stones that will never be thrown. It's amazing.

So I guess it is good to be a part of something that is attempting to preach the Good News in what I consider its essential form: Jesus loves you.

No qualifiers, no exceptions for homosexuals or scientists. Just plain simple truth: Jesus loves you. Radical stuff, I guess.

While there are certainly some judgemental Christians, is it possible that we got to "this place" because that's how Christians are so often portrayed in the media?

Well stated. I'm glad you had a great weekend.

I personally was turned off religion as a catholic when I kept hearing as a child that other people are going to hell b/c they don't believe in God, didn't have first communion, didn't get baptised. Not everyone was this radical, but it wasn't few and far between either. I'll never forget feeling sorry for my Jewish friend down the block. That's not a God I wanted and never rebounded.

It sounds like a great church you have with the right kind people. Have a great thanksgiving!

Ah, only one more comment fer you (no long debate as was the case last go around)- stay positive (you know what I mean)? You can be blessed anywhere with the roight spirit(s). Keep your chin up and in your case keep it in good faith with a little boutter. Don't let those qualifiable good days be nostalgiac ones. Be gritty as dirt in the face of adversity, and like Hunter S. said, "when the going gets weird...the weird turn pro". Just up the ante, do what y'doin'...eeeh...

Happy Cultural Genocide Day,

IP - I don't blame things on the media much - I'd prefer to blame Pat Robertson since he seems to determined to make an ass of himself. :)

anon 8:36 - your story seems more the rule than the exception. I've heard story after story of people being turned off to Christianity because of the judging of a few. It is a reminder for each of us to treat everyone the way Jesus treats us: compassion and Love. That'll do it everytime.

anon 11:57 - stay positive indeed!
